After leading provider Gaudenzia needed to relocate its treatment facilities, it is now able to provide a greater range of recovery options.

Gaudenzia’s new Claymont treatment facility opened to much applause in late August. A leading treatment provider in high demand in one of the Delaware communities where the opioid crisis has hit hardest, Gaudenzia needed a new home when its previous 16-bed facility was forced to relocate.

Speakers at the grand opening included Lieutenant Governor Bethany Hall-Long, State Senator Stephanie Hanson, State Representative Raymond Seigfried, New Castle County Executive Matt Meyer, Brett Sadler, Sara Monnen, and testimonies from a grateful parent and a program graduate. The program featured a ribbon cutting and tours of the new facilities.

“We stand united … mental health and substance use disorder is a priority,” said Lieutenant Governor Bethany Hall-Long.

The new building allows Gaudenzia to provide a greater range of treatment options to women and men battling substance use disorder, mental illness, and personal care issues, such as poor health and nutrition. Gaudenzia also supports clients in recovery by providing Intensive Outpatient Program services at the Claymont Community Center.

Claymont houses two addiction treatment and recovery programs: New Journey, a 16-bed residential treatment program designed for a six-month stay, and new Sober Living Housing program, 10 apartment homes for newly sober single women with children younger than 10.

NeighborWorks Capital worked with National Council on Agricultural Life and Labor Research Fund, Inc. (NCALL), a leading CDFI, buying a participation in their subordinate construction-to-miniperm loan to help Gaudenzia acquire and rehabilitate the property. You can read more details here.

Gaudenzia provides housing and services to individuals seeking mental health, drug and alcohol treatment. This year is Gaudenzia’s 50th anniversary. After starting with one treatment center outside Philadelphia in 1968, Gaudenzia grew to operate 161 programs at 90 facilities, with a significant track record of success throughout Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Maryland. They serve more than 20,000 patients and clients annually.
