NeighborWorks Capital is pleased to extend a $412,250 permanent loan to NeighborWorks Toledo Region (NTR) to acquire a building for the Toledo Healthy Homes Training Institute. From its new location, the Institute will provide weatherization and workforce training for jobs in the clean energy market. NTR will also purchase two vacant lots adjacent to the building, which will become the future site of a laboratory-style classroom for job-specific training.

NTR has been the sole provider of comprehensive weatherization services for low-income households in the Toledo region since 1983. They received a $1.9M three-year grant from the Department of Energy to enhance existing programming with the new training center. The center will serve as a regional hub to meet the training needs of Weatherization Assistance Program providers in northern Ohio as well as local contractors. The innovative areas of study that will be provided at the facility include weatherization, lead hazard mitigation, and other healthy homes topics. The launch of the new training center will include efforts to engage individuals from groups who are underrepresented in the energy efficiency profession, such as people of color, women, veterans, and people with disabilities.

NTR works to transform lives in the greater Toledo area by providing vital education and safe, quality, affordable housing for individuals and families. To achieve its mission, NTR offers a variety of services including affordable housing development, financial wellness coaching, and weatherization and energy efficiency services.

This is NeighborWorks Capital’s first loan with NeighborWorks Toledo Region, and we are thrilled to begin a long and fruitful partnership to support their work to transform lives in the greater Toledo area.
