Green Initiatives
NeighborWorks Capital Green connects developers and lenders to technical assistance, project support, and low-cost, flexible debt to fund operating property rehab/retrofit and new construction projects that increase building energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Many developers in the affordable housing industry do not have significant experience with energy efficiency investment or have had challenges executing these projects in the past. NeighborWorks Green understands these challenges and works to help our partner organizations overcome them. Ensuring access to the resources that enable transforming our communities at scale is critical to building sustainable, healthy, and resilient communities.
The additional capital that green loans, clean energy funding, tax credit enhancements, and local incentives enable will be transformational, but only if the resources are accessible. We will be your partner to ensure that clean energy investments can more readily flow into your project. Investment in sustainability and high-performance buildings presents a generational opportunity to mobilize financing and private capital to address the climate crisis, particularly in communities that have been historically left behind.
NeighborWorks Capital Green lending programs:
Multifamily Lending
We are developing a new fund of loan capital for multi-family real estate development to support the retrofit of existing properties to increase building energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions and loans for the construction of new Net-Zero properties.

Solar Lending
We will facilitate access to solar loan products that serve low-income and disadvantaged communities (LIDAC) by providing a minimum of 20% household savings through on-site or community solar installations.
Our Reach
Through our partnership with NeighborWorks America, its network of leading nonprofits, and the larger membership groups serving CDFIs, NeighborWorks Capital Green is uniquely equipped to facilitate the equitable distribution of green lending opportunities to a variety of CDFIs serving communities in every state, the District of Colombia, Puerto Rico, and on tribal lands, and to implement plans to ensure leaders in every community have access to training and support to bring this resource to their neighborhoods.
NeighborWorks Capital Green will coordinate trainings and resources for CDFIs to engage in energy-related lending and engage, educate, and equip leaders in low-income, disadvantaged, rural, and Native communities across the country to build their knowledge of green loan opportunities. Our team will work collaboratively with NeighborWorks America to engage its national network and other service providers. We will not only expand the conversation about green building but ensure the technical knowledge, lessons learned, and finance solutions flow down to providers that haven’t always been able to access these critical resources.
